Indy Mood... A Family ExaminationWritten by Bill Lathrop, founder of the Modern Conduit Mare systemThe bloodlines contained in the pedigree of Indy Mood provide access to the best in American breeding. The immediate family is one of quality. Sired by Belmont Stakes winner and sire of sires, A.P. Indy, out of a Champion-producing daughter of the outstanding broodmare sire, In Reality, even a casual glance would offer enough to consider him as a stallion. But wait... there's more. The female family of Indy Mood traces to the Conduit Mare Bill and Coo through the legendary Somethingroyal. Bill and Coo is the conduit of such breed shaping stallions as Alleged, Busted, Secretariat, and Sir Gaylord, as well as Indy Mood. In Reality is the broodmare sire of three of the current top forty broodmare sires. Relaunch (#3), Valid Appeal (#8), and Known Fact (#39). A.P. Indy is a little young to evaluate as to what his impact will be as a broodmare sire, but I see no reason that he will not excel in that category as time passes. One Example of crossing A.P. Indy and In Reality is G1 stakes winner, Passing Shot, by A.P. Indy o/o Aucilla, who is by the In Reality son, Relaunch. Examining the Modern Conduit Mare profile of Indy Mood you see a good balance of speed and stamina (11/12), and a profile of: 9-2-1-1-11, with enough "Brilliant" contributions to enhance speed with the right mare, and enough stamina, through the 11 "Professional" points, to get a classic distance type. Indy Mood was a good-looking yearling, being purchased for $340,000 at the 1995 Keeneland July Sale (sire average at this sale was under $300,000), and has the conformation to produce runners. He offers a good phenotype, a fine family and the profile to fit many mares. For more information on conduit mares, please visit Modern Conduit Mares
